Nayagarh firing: RDC probe begins

Nayagarh: Revenue Divisional Commissioner Central (RDC) Bikash Chandra Mohapatra on Thursday began its probe into the death of a man in a police firing in the district of Odisha in September in 2014.

The RDC reached Ranapur and recorded statements from six eyewitnesses present at the spot in presence of Nayagarh district collector, additional collector and local BDO. The official will submit its report to the State government after the probe.

On September 6, 2014, locals were protesting against police inaction in a quadruple murder case in Shastri Nagar under Ranapur PS during which Pradeep Behera was killed in police firing.

Chief minister Naveen Patnaik had order for a RDC probe into the death of Behera in September last year. Besides, the then SP of Nayagarh Niti Sekhar was shunted to State Police Heaquarters.
