Navodaya girl student’s death: Irate villagers demand probe
Bhadrak: Tension ran high at Bangore village in Bhadrak district after the body of the girl student of Hadagarh Navodaya Vidyalaya reached the village today.
Reports said the irate villagers gheroad the Anandpur sub collector and SDPO demanding impartial probe into the death of the girl student and stern action against the teacher who was harassing the deceased.
The villagers later relented after the two officials assured them to fulfil their demands.
It may be mentioned that Priyanka Priyadarshini Prusty, a Class IX girl student of Navodaya Vidyalaya was rescued from the Hadagarh dam bed yesterday with severe injuries on hear head, waist and legs yesterday. However, she succumbed to her injuries at the district headquarters hospital later.
The deceased was missing from her school for the past two days.
Talking to the media persons, Khaja Prustry, father of the deceased girl blamed all teachers of Navodaya Vidyalaya, particularly, the Mathematics teacher, for the death of his daughter.
“The Mathematics teacher was always harassing my daughter and giving her poor marks though she was a brilliant student. I had brought this matter to the notice of the school authorities, but to no avail,” he alleged.
Anandpur SDPO, Amulya Kumar Routray said as per the allegation, police has registered a case under section 302 and 376.
“Besides, since the deceased is a girl, police has registered a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act,” he added.
He also said the police has received the post mortem report and started investigation.
