Minor girl rescued from forced marriage in Nayagarh

Nayagarh: A minor girl, who was being married by her parents against her wish, was rescued from Baigunia village in the district on Wednesday.

According to reports, the girl, a Class -IX student studying in Bhubaneswar, was forced to marry a boy with whom her elder sister was supposed to marry but she eloped with someone else.

Following this, her family members were allegedly trying to marry her off with that person despite her unwillingness.

On being informed about the incident, Child Line members and Linchon Subudhi, a social activist, went to the village and foiled the marriage.

The report also stated that the family members had already printed the invitation cards and made all arrangements to make the marriage a successful one.

Along with the Child Welfare members, the district police also rushed to the village and rescued the girl after intervening in the matter.

“Her family members were trying to marry her forcefully after her elder sister had eloped with someone else,” said social activist Linkan Subudhi.

“We will take the necessary action only after enquiry report,” said Fategarh IIC Sudhakar Panda.

Speaking to media persons, her father said, “As everyone is against this marriage and she is a class IX student, so marriage will be done after two years.”
