Leopard skin seized in Malkangiri, one held

Malkangiri: The Forest officials on Saturday night seized a leopard skin and arrested a person from a village in Malkangiri district.

Acting on a tip-off, a team of Forest staff, led by the Ranger of Mathili forest range Bijay Kumar Nayak, raided a house at Karapalli village under Mathili police station and seized the leopard skin. The team later arrested Sanyasi Nayak.

Talking to the media, Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) of Malkangiri, Ashok Kumar said, the team, acting on a tip-off about the selling of the tiger skin, raided Karapalli village and seized the skin from the arrested villager’s possession.

“As per the preliminary investigation, the accused had killed the leopard about a month ago. We are now interrogating the accused to get the details about the killing of the leopard and the involvement of other persons in this incident. After the interrogation, we will hand over the accused and the seized skin to the police who will later forward him to the court,” Kumar added.
