Labourers’ death: Kendrapara MP writes to Telangana CM

Bhubaneswar: BJD MP from Kendrapara Baijayant Panda has again taken up with Telangana chief minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao the plight of the migrant Odia labourers working in the neighbouring State.

In a letter to Rao yesterday, the parliamentarian has requested the former to look into the suspicious death of two Odia labourers in Hyderabad. The deceased, identified as Saikh Tamjit and Saikh Sajauddin from Ali block in Kedrapada district, were working as cooks there. Their bodies were found at Kacheguda station on Thursday morning.

Besides, Panda has sought the Telangana chief minister’s intervention in ensuring safety of other Odias working in the southern State. Many reports have published in the recent past about the sub-human condition the Odia migrant labourers are forced to live in there.

Notably, the Kendrapara MP has been raising the issue of problems the Odia migrant labourers are facing in Telangana with Rao. He had also visited Telangana to get a first-hand account of the plight of Odia labourers working, especially in the brick kilns, there.
