L N Patnaik, S Bindhani to be next information commissioners

Bhubaneswar: Laxmi Narayan Patnaik and Sashiprava Bindhani will be the two new information commissioners of the State. A formal announcement will be made in this regard only after the approval of the Governor.

Two names were finalized at a meeting chaired by chief minister Naveen Patnaik in which Parliamentary affairs minister Bikram Keshari Arukh and leader of opposition Narasingha Mishra were the members. Mishra, who however, did not support both of them for the top post.

However, as the other two members including the CM and Parliamentary affairs minister have given consent, Patnaik and Bindhani would get the top post.

Around 40 had applied for the post of two information commissioners out of which six were short-listed. According to the government’s guidelines, three information commissioners should work with a chief commissioner.

Jagadananda retired as information commissioner in 2013 while Tarunakanti Mishra had resigned as chief commissioner in February this year. Now, Pramod Mohanty is working as a lone information commissioner in the State who will retire in July.
