HSC annual exams from Feb 22

Cuttack: The annual High School Certificate (HSC) examinations, conducted by the Board of Secondary Education (BSE) would begin in Odisha from February 22.

Announcing this at a press briefing here on Thursday, BSE president Prof Dakhshya Prasad Nanda said a total of 6,01,348 Regular and Ex-Regular students will appear the examinations in 2882 centres.

Talking about the steps the Board has taken for smooth conduct of the examinations, Nanda said the Board has set up 305 nodal centres including 22 police stations as nodal centres for safe custody of question papers and OMR sheets with 24-hour security.

“The Examination Committee of the Board has approved the number of the examination and nodal centres as per the recommendation of the District Level Committee,” he added.

He said as far as the management of nodal centres is concerned, the Board has appointed supervisor and deputy supervisor for each centre.

Asked about the despatch of question papers to the examination centres, Nanda said as per the decision of the Board, a despatch team, comprising the Board employees, will leave for the nodal centres with the question papers and OMR sheets in the afternoon a day before the commencement of the examination with police protection and hand over the materials to the concerned centre superintendents.

“The team will move in a specific route and have a night halt at the last Centre. On the next day, the team, after the completion of the examination, will collect the OMR and question and answer sheets packets and deposit them in the nodal centres. The process will continue till the conclusion of the examination. For the safety of question papers in the Maoist prone districts, we have taken 22 police stations as nodal centres”, he pointed out.

Nanda also said the Board this year has decided to issue admit cards to the students through offline and online. “We will generate the admit cards and send it to all schools by the first week of February. Besides, we will also inform the students about the website through which they can download their admit cards,” he informed.

The BSE president also said the Board, for the first time, is going to conduct Odisha State Open School Examination from this year to give opportunity to the students, who have left the school after Class VII.

The examination will begin from April 11 and conclude on April 18 for which the form fill-up would start from January 14, he informed.
