Hirakud to release season’s first floodwater on Monday

Sambalpur: With the water level in Hirakud reservoir steadily rising due to incessant rain in its upper catchment areas following the depression in Bay of Bengal, the dam authorities said that they will release the season’s first floodwater from the dam on July 13.

The sluice gates will be opened between 11 am to 1 pm and an alert has been sounded to the people residing in low-lying areas, a dam official said.

Currently, around 2,14,327 cusecs of water is entering into the reservoir while 20,392 cusecs of water is being released, the official added.
