High alert sounded in Odisha ahead of R-Day

Bhubaneswar: With the 67th Republic Day with just a day to go, high alert has been sounded in the state and security arrangements have been beefed up in the capital city to avoid any untoward incident, said Director General of Police (DGP) KB Singh.

“High alert has been sounded across the state and all the district superintendents of police and collectors have been asked to stay alert during the Republic Day celebration,” Singh said after reviewing state level full-dress parade rehearsal at Mahatma Gandhi Marg here.

Four-tier security arrangement has been made in the capital city and 22 platoons of police forces will be deployed here during the celebration, DGP said, adding that special security arrangements have been also made in Maoist prone areas.

Besides, anti terrorist squad along with two units of SoG will also be mobilised. CCTV cameras will keep a close watch on any suspicious activities. Police in civil dress and armed personnel will also keep vigil. Hotels, bus-stands and railway station have been frisked ahead of the Republic Day celebration, the DGP said.

As many as 55 uniform groups and 35 non uniform groups on Sunday participated in the full-dress rehearsal here. Similarly, three tableaus and six cultural groups also took part in the rehearsal.

Hundred groups will take part in the State-level parade. The centre of attraction will be the dare devil bike ride show and roller skating by the kids.
