Former Odisha minister passes away

Balasore: Former minister and two-time MLA of Basta constituency, Maheswar Bag passed away at the district headquarters hospital here on Thursday morning.

Bag was admitted to the district headquarters hospital on January 12 after he suddenly fell ill while on his way to attend a function.

As his condition deteriorated, he was kept at todaythe ICU where he passed away at 10.15 AM, family sources said.

Bag was the MLA of Basta constituency from 1962 to 1967 as a candidate of Praja Socialist Party (PSP). He was elected again from his home constituency as a Janata Party candidate in 1974 and later a became the minister of Works, and Health and Family Welfare.
