Film fest on child rights held

Bhubaneswar: With an aim to raise awareness and sensitize the society about child rights through the medium of film, a city-based voluntary organization organized a short films contest ‘Kallola’ here last week.

The ceremony saw many young filmmakers from different backgrounds sending their entries on the theme ‘Ending Violence Against Children’. Around 27 films were received in duration of 30, 60 and 90 seconds on four sub-themes such as child labour, child sexual abuse, child marriage and corporal punishment.

‘The Voice’, a short film based on child sexual abuse by Santosh Panda, bagged the first award followed by ‘Building Knowledge’ by Soham Dutta, ‘So Sweet of You’ by The Mantra won the second and third award in the evening.

The jury’s choice award went to ‘Chhotu’ by Biswajit Kuldi and ‘The Right Glass’ by Biswanath Rath won the children’s choice award.

The festival saw governor S.C. Jamir as the chief guest and national award-winning filmmaker Sabyasachi Mohapatra and producer Anant Mohapatra as guests of honour.
