Excise official in Vigilance net for accepting bribe

Keonjhar: Vigilance officials today arrested Excise Superintendent of the district Abhay Panjar Sahu for taking Rs 10,000 as bribe to renew license of mahua flowers.

Sahu was arrested from his office here after being caught red-handed by the anti-corruption sleuths.

Official sources said, four months ago one Ranjit Sahu of Anandpur in the district had applied for renewal of mahua flower storage license which was in the name of his father. When he approached the officer for the same, he demanded Rs 50,000 as bribe.

But Sahu expressed his inability to pay the amount and later the amount was settled at Rs 10,000.

“He (Sahu) informed us about the matter and a trap was laid accordingly. Today morning when the officer was accepting the amount, we caught him red-handed,” said a Vigilance officer.

The officer will be produced in a local court today.
