Economic blockade launched to expedite Talcher medical college
Angul: Protesting delay in completion of the proposed medical college in Talcher, the Talcher Suraksha Manch has launched an economic blockade and demanding fulfilment of 6-point charter of demand and fast-tracking of the project.
In 2014, the State government decided to establish a 100-seat medical college and 500-bed capacity hospital by signing an memorandum of understanding with Mahanadi Coal Fields.
The forum alleged that no noticeable progress has been made on the project. The blockade affected the mining operations and transportation of MCL. After the stir, a meeting between the collector, MCL authorities and protestors was held; and while 2 of the demands were agreed upon the stalemate continued over the proposed medical college.
