Court asks Sarathi to appear before it on Jan 21

Cuttack: The Sub Divisional Judicial Magistrate (SDJM) court here on Monday ordered controversial self-proclaimed godman Sarathi Baba alias Santosh Raul to appear before it on January 21.

Sarathi, who is currently lodged in the Choudwar Circle Jail, was produced before the court amid tight security. The court directed him to appear before it on January 21 since other accused failed to appear before it.

“This was the first appearance after the submission of chargesheet against Sarathi. Those summoned by the court didn’t appear before the court today. The court is expected to pronounce judgement in the next date,” Sarathi’s lawyer Manas Chand told the media.

Court sources said Sarathi was produced before the court in connection with two cases registered against him by the Crime Branch. The CB had filed the FIR on the basis of the statement recorded by the controversial woman medico who reportedly went to Hyderabad with him and stayed in a hotel. The Crime Branch has also filed its chargesheet against Sarathi Baba.

In August last, Sarathi was arrested by the Crime Branch after being picked up by from his ashram at Barimula in Kendrapara district.
