Convict sent to jail 41 years after murder
Bolangir: Dhubei Podha, one of the nine convicts in the sensational Parsuram Satpathy murder case, was sent to jail by police today 41 years after the incident.
69-year-old Podha, who had committed the crime at the age of 28, was found guilty along with eight others by the Orissa High Court recently. However, six of the convicts have already died after enjoying their full length of life while only three of them are alive.
Besides Podha, two other convicts alive are former MLA Prasanna Pal and Artatrana Singh Deo, against whom Bolangir Sessions court has issued arrest warrants.
Pronouncing such a not-so-historic verdict, the High Court had on May 5 awarded life imprisonment to the nine persons involved in the murder of Parsuram Satpathy, a top youth leader of that time, way back in 1974. The convicts had attacked Satpathy and crushed him under a jeep here.
A case had been registered against the nine persons in the case. But a local court and later even the High Court had acquitted all of them. However, the Supreme Court directed the High Court to hear the case all again. It’s during the re-hearing, all the nine accused were found guilty and awarded lifers.
