Idco Tower death: Family alleges murder

Bhubaneswar: A day after the death of Gajendranath Das, a Class-A contractor of Jagatsinghpur, after falling off IDCO tower, family members on Wednesday lodged complaint at Saheed Nagar police station here alleging murder.

They also staged a sit-in with the body of Das in front of IDCO tower demanding thorough investigation into the incident.

“IDCO is supposed to pay around Rs 1.7 crore against the construction works of three JNVs-one each at Konark, Rahama and Nandankanan. My father had been running to IDCO office for last four years. He was under severe mental stress. He came yesterday to receive the amount as per their assurance, but in vein”, Gagan Das, son of the deceased, said.

“We suspect they have embezzled the amount and pushed my father off the rooftop of the building”, Gagan added.

Das, a resident of Baleipur in Jagatsinghpur district, died after falling off the rooftop of the 14-storeyed building at Sahid Nagar during post-noon hours on Tuesday.

Following information, police rushed to the spot and seized a suicide note from the deceased.

The note stated that Das, who stays at Sarala Nagar in Laxmi Sagar area in the city, had come to the Idco office to meet the CMD regarding his payment against the construction of two Navodaya Schools at Konark and Rahama. But he could not meet the official as he was absent. Frustrated, Das jumped off the building and died instantly.

As per the statement of Das’s driver, his owner was in a state of depression for long time as he failed to get the payment from the Idco authorities against his construction work.

Police had registered unnatural death (UD) case and started investigation. On the other hand, the Idco authorities are not available for comment.
