Cong’s Yuva Garjan Samabesh deferred to Feb 15

Bhubaneswar: The Congress party has decided to hold the ‘Yuva Garjan Samabesh’ here apparently on February 15 instead of next Tuesday. Though an official communication from the party in this regard is yet to be made, sources said it will be announced soon.

The age-old party, to expose failure of the State government on all fronts had decided to congregate in the State capital on January 2. But, highly placed sources said, All India Congress Committee (AICC) reportedly didn’t agree with the State unit’s plan for such a huge crowd-gathering move on the particular day, which coincides with 10-year completion of National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (NREGA), launched by party president Sonia Gandhi.

Sources said, the party, though not in power is going to commemorate the achievement of the scheme in a grand way.

“Preparations for the Yuva Samabesh are almost complete. This is a big day for us. On this day we will expose the failures of the State government,” said Odisha Pradesh Youth Congress (OPYC) president Rajat Choudhury.

Meanwhile party insiders said, the party was divided on the date of the event. While party’s senior leader and coordination committee member Lulu Mohapatra wanted it on Tuesday, PCC president Prasad Harichandan and some senior leaders didn’t agree with the idea, considering the NREGA celebrations. The difference in opinion was evident as Harichandan had not spoke to the media about the event earlier, even if arrangements were being made to make the day successful.

But senior leader Suresh Routroy’s Saturday statement cleared the air that some leaders did not want the strength showing event of the party on Tuesday.

“We will pull the youth from across the State….. Despite of differences in opinion Congress is a single party,” Routroy said.
