UU stir: FIR lodged over woman’s death

Bhubaneswar: A day after woman teacher Suman Sharma died inside the car near Utkal University during a road blockade by students, the husband of the deceased lodged a complaint at Saheed Nagar police station today demanding a probe into the incident.

Holding the students responsible for the unfortunate incident, the complainant Binod Kumar said the students should refrain from such activities.

“As I came to know that students are culprits. But, they are like our son. I appealed to them no to do such things with anybody in their life. Because, life is most important thing,” Kumar said.

Similarly, brother of Suman held police responsible equally for the incident and demanded capital punishment for the culprits.
“She could have been taken to nearby hospital. But police took her to capital hospital which is six-seven km from the spot. Police are also responsible equally for the incident. I demand capital punishment for the culprits,”Mukesh Kumar, brother of the deceased said .

Reacting to the complaint, DCP Satyabrat Bhoi said action will be taken after examining the CCTV video footage.

The woman, identified as Suman of Jamshedpur, who was working as a teacher in a private school, was on the way to her house when the car, which she was driving, got stuck on the National Highway in front of Utkal University as the irate students blocked the road in protest against the cancellation of students’ union elections.

She suddenly fell unconscious. Police rushed her to Capital hospital where doctors declared her brought dead.

While the exact cause of the death is not yet known, Bhubaneswar DCP Satyabrata Bhoi said the woman might have died of shock after some striking students rushed towards her vehicle.
