CM orders Crime Branch probe into Astarang quadruple murder case

Bhubaneswar: A day after the ghastly murder of four members of a family at Nagar village near Astarang in Puri, chief minister Naveen Patnaik today ordered the State Crime Branch to inquiry into the incident.

A team has been formed for investigation and it will reach the spot at Nagar village in the afternoon, Crime Branch ADG BK Sharma said.

Villagers, who detained the bodies, allowed police vehicle to take the bodies for postmortem after Crime Branch probe was ordered.

Retired district inspector (DI) of schools, Dinabandhu Mallick, his wife and two minor daughters were found dead with throat slit in the house last night.

Notably, Puri SP Rajesh Singh had formed a 4-member team of police to investigate the case. Scientific team reached the spot today. IG RP Kochhe also rushed to the spot to take stock of the situation.

Relatives of the deceased said miscreants might have committed the crime for properties. On the other hand, police have not detained anyone on the matter.
