Civil society demands CBI probe into Nabakalebar infra ‘scam’

Puri: Sachetan Nagarik Manch, a civil society today alleged that the Odisha government is involved in a multi-crore infrastructure scam during Nabakalebar festival by allowing sub-standard project works in Puri.

It said though the Centre had provided enough financial support for the mega event, the ruling BJD failed to manage it properly and could not complete the project works on time.

“The State government is claiming that it has spent Rs 2000 crore in the festival. But one look at the infrastructure works in and around Puri taken up for the event narrates the poor quality of work. The government received crores of rupees as kick backs and turned eye to all the works,” a member of the society said.

“It has received crores of rupees from the contractors for Nabakalebar villages and Maltipatpur bus terminal which was built at a cost of Rs 70 crore,” he stated.

“We demand a CBI probe into the matter” they said.
