Sura Baba, son chargesheeted in land fraud case

Cuttack/Chhatrapur: Crime Branch of Odisha police on Wednesday filed a charge-sheet against Surendra Mishra aka Sura Baba at Chhatrapur SDJM court for his involvement in a land fraud.

In its charge-sheet, the probe agency has mentioned that Mishra had grabbed one acre of land located at Chhatrapur belonging to Motiram Sahu. Sahu had filed a complaint in this regard with Chhatrapur police following which the Crime Branch had started investigation into the matter.

“The chargesheet has been filed against Sura Baba and his son. Around Rs 30 lakh cash was recovered. The bank account in which nearly Rs 2.75 crores was saved has been frozen. This apart, Rs 22 lakh was saved through different policies and these have been seized,” Crime Branch ADG BK Sharma said.

The charge-sheet mentioned that Sura Baba and his two sons have been booked under section 420, 467,468,471,341,323 of Indian Penal Code (IPC). Six cases were registered against the trio and they had been chargesheeted in three cases earlier.

The total cost of the self-styled godman’s properties is about Rs 25 crores while his Ashram at Jhinti sasan alone has been valued at around Rs 20.44 crore, the chargesheet read.

On the other hand, Sura Baba’s counsel Surendra Senapati has claimed that false cases were filed against his client.

“The case filed against Surendranath Mishra and Trilochan Mishra is false and baseless. We will move the higher cour and we hope that they will get bail,” Senapati said.
