Carcass of female elephant found in Udala
Baripada: The carcass of a female elephant was found inside Karidachua forest under Kaptipada forest division in Udala on Friday.
It is assumed that the pachyderm could be in the age group of 12 to15 years.
However, the cause of death is yet to be ascertained.
Similarly, carcasses of a new born elephant calf and its mother were found inside Alakudara forest limits under Gudugudia range inside Similipal National Park area on Thursday.
The carcasses were found during patrolling by the forest department.
Meanwhile, the Divisional forest officer (DFO), Assistant Conservator of Forests (ACF) and the forest department veterinary doctor reached the spot and conducted the anatomy of the bodies.
According to the preliminary investigation reports it was found that after delivering the calf the mother elephant died and subsequently the baby died as well.
The mother jumbo could be in the age group of 10 to 15 years, DFO, Karanjia, Prasanna Kumar Behera said
After post-mortem the carcasses were buried in the forest.
