Bonda village celebrates PM invite for couple on R-Day

Malkangiri: It is something they could not have imagined in their wildest dreams: an invitation from the Prime Minister, no less, for a Bonda couple living in a remote Malkangiri village and that too as guests on the special occasion of Republic Day.

Dhabalu Sisa and his wife Samari have been beaming from ear to ear ever since they heard about the invitation from Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

“Meeting the President and Prime Minister is something we could not have dreamt. We will use this opportunity to highlight our problems and how we are suffering due the vagaries of nature, said a beaming Dhabalu.

“We will meet the President and the Prime Minister. We will apprise them of the problems plaguing the Bonda Ghats – the habitat of Bonda tribes. We will tell them about the lack of connectivity and infrastructure for our area,” said a visibly excited Samari.

Even as they begin their dress rehearsal for D day, they can hardly wait to be part of the biggest show of India’s diverse cultural heritage and military might.

Not just the Sisa couple, the whole village is ecstatic about this rare honour coming their way. They have been celebrating the invitation for one of their own with non-stop dance and music since the time they first heard about it.
