Body of NIT student found

Bhubaneswar: The body of a B Tech student of National Institute of Technology (NIT), Rourkela was recovered from a pond located inside its campus today.

Sources said the student reportedly had gone missing from his hostel room since Monday evening.

The deceased has been identified as Sidharth Sekhar Bartia, a second year student of B.Tech in Industrial Design and a native of Krushna Chandra Street, Sorada, Ganjam.

Sources added Bartia was staying in Vikram Sarabhai hostel in the campus. On Monday evening at about 7 PM he had left his hostel room and had not returned.

On Tuesday morning, the workers at a construction site inside NIT campus noticed a body floating in the pond inside NIT campus area and informed the authorities. The body was recovered from pond and sent for postmortem.

The family members of the deceased student have been informed, police sources said.

Police have registered a case of unnatural death and started investigating the case.
