BJP raps govt over farmers suicide

Bhubaneswar: The BJP on Sunday launched a broadside against the Odisha government for the death of farmers.

Talking to mediapersons after the party’s core committee meeting here, BJP state in-charge Arun Singh said,
“Farmers have taken short-term loans. However, due to crop loss they did not get recovery of their investment. Moneylenders also heckle him for the debt money. Since they don’t get any assistance from the government, they are forced to take extreme step.”

Union minister Dharmendra Pradhan, who was present at the meeting, said, “Till today, the State government has not prepared the memorandum on the basis of which the Centre would send its team to assess the situation and release the funds.”

Among others, the party’s State president KV Singhdeo and other senior leaders were present in the core committee meeting.

The meeting decided that the party would complete process of organisational polls by December 15.
