Bhushan Steel slapped 10L fine again

Bhubanewar: Ten days after imposing a fine of Rs 10 lakh, the chief judicial magistrate court (CJM) in Dhenkanal today slapped a similar amount of fine on two senior employees of Bhushan Steel which runs a steel plant in Meramundali of the district. The fine has been imposed on the company officials- Satish Tyagi and R Sengupta.

The court announced its verdict today on five out of 82 cases lodged against the company pertaining to the general violations under the Factories Act, 1948 and Odisha Factories Rule, 1950.

The violations were observed during the time of regular factory inspections, said an official.

The company’s steel plant at Meramandali has been prone to accidents in the past. The Odisha State Pollution Control Board (OSPCB) in November 2013 had ordered closure of its second blast furnace after an explosion at the slag pit during the fourth day of the furnace’s trial run in which one person had died and 17 others were critically injured.
