Belabahali clash: Court grants bail to 63 women

Keonjhar: The District and Sessions court here today granted bail to 63 women, who were arrested two weeks ago after the villagers of Belabahali under Anandpur sub-division in the district had pitched battle with police on the issue of location of a proposed bridge over Kusei river.

The police had arrested 118 villagers after the clash, in which 30 persons were injured on either side. Opposition parties Congress and BJP had demanded immediate release of the arrested persons, especially women as many of them were mothers of small kids.

The villagers, who are opposing the construction of the proposed bridge in that area and want its relocation elsewhere, were staging a dharna on National Highway-215 on July 6 when the clash erupted due to police intervention.
