Bandh disrupts normal life in Bhuban

Kamakhyanagar: Normal life came to a standstill in the district due to a bandh observed by the BJP demanding Rs 10 lakh ex-gratia to the family of the minor girl of Maluaguda village under Bhuban police limits, who was murdered after being raped last week.

The agitating members of the saffron party burnt tyres at Kali Bazaar and blocked the National Highway-53 bringing vehicular movement in the area to a grinding halt.

All educational institutes, private organisations and business establishments remained closed during the bandh, which will be observed till 12 noon today.

However, emergency services remained operational as the protesters spared the services from the shutdown.

Notably on January 24, Sibananda Pradhan, a resident of the village had kidnapped the 10-year old daughter of Gangadhar Pradhan and raped her. Later, Pradhan allegedly murdered her and dumped her body.

As family members of the deceased are illiterate, they buried the body of their daughter in the backyard of their house without bringing the matter to the notice of police.

On being informed about the incident by some sources, Bhuban police rushed to the village on January 25 and launched an investigation. On January 26, the police seized the buried body and arrested Pradhan.
