Hearing on Satyam bail plea deferred; associates bail rejected

Cuttack: The Orissa High Court today adjourned the hearing of the bail application of Satyam Roul, the adopted son of godman Santosh Roul, alias Sarathi Baba, and a local court refused bail to three persons who had allegedly helped him to flee to Mumbai to escape arrest.

The HC adjourned the hearing as the prosecution sought some more time to submit the case diaries and posted the case for hearing on September 22.

Satyam’s bail pleas were earlier rejected by Cuttack SDJM court and a special SC and ST court, after which he moved the HC.

SDJM Bibaswat Gautam rejected the bail applications of Satyam?s associates Pilashki Swain, Biswajit Patnaik and Harish Chandra Das who had allegedly helped him to flee to Mumbai after receiving Rs 20 lakh from him. They were arrested on September 1 from Bhubaneswar and Rs 17 lakh was seized from them.

The prosecution had opposed the plea saying investigations into the case are still on.

The SDJM’s court completed the hearing on an application filed by Satyam to allow him to stay in the same cell as his father Santosh as he felt lonely and frightened in the solitary cell.

The verdict on it would be pronounced on Tuesday.
