Ayurvedic College to get facelift

Berhampur: The Kabiraj Ananta Tripathy Sharma Ayurvedic College and Hospital at Ankushapur here will get a facelift soon with Odisha government sanctioning Rs 5.91 crore for the purpose.

The money has been sanctioned under National Health Mission for development of infrastructure at the government-run college.

“A girl’s hostel, physiotherapy and yoga centres, waiting rooms and two gates would be built with the funds.

The internal roads would be repaired and an overhead tank constructed to ensure continuous drinking water supply,” said Principal of the college, A N Parhi.

The 36-year old college offers four and a half year Bachelor in Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery. The student strength is 120, including 90 girls. “We need a separate hostel to accommodate the girls,” he said.

The principal said he requested the government to provide Rs 11.5 lakh for drinking water and electricity supply to the newly constructed boys hostel. To expand its herbal garden, spread over 3.11 acre, the college recently approached the district administration for the 5 acre adjoining its campus, he added.

“We have also sought an amount of Rs 30 lakh from State Medicinal Plants Board to develop the garden,” Parhi said.
