Award to boost primary education in State

Bhubaneswar: In an effort to improve the quality of education in primary schools across the State, the government today, for the first time, has given a special kind of award to some schools for achieving academic excellence.

A total of 44 schools were awarded, of whom three schools bagged ‘A’ category while 16 and 25 schools got ‘B’ and ‘C’ categories respectively, sources said.

To encourage these schools to impart quality education in the coming years and boosting the academic infrastructure, the Education department also gave away cash prizes along with the trophies.

According to the sources, ‘A’ category schools received Rs 3 lakh and ‘B’ and ‘C’ category schools got Rs 2 lakh and Rs 1 lakh respectively.

Giving away the awards, School and Mass Education minister Debi Prasad Mishra said, “The initiative will inspire other schools, school committees and teachers to do well in the days to come.”

“We hope at least a 100 of such awards will have to be given next year,” Mishra added.
