Athlete harassment: SAI begins probe

Cuttack: Authorities of Sports Authority of India (SAI) have started probe into a sexual torture allegation made by a SAI hostel inmate here on Saturday.

A psychiatric of SAI from Kolkata Rina Kaul met the complainant Samsara Begum and questioned about the incident in details.

Speaking to mediapersons, Kaul said in coming days the SAI’s focus will be to improve the understanding between coaches and athletes. Besides, mental condition of the hostel inmates will be boosted with counselling, she added.

Meanwhile, the 17-year old athlete Begum confirmed that the charges she has made in the police complaint are true.

On Wednesday, Begum has accused her coach Susant Ray of harassment and physical assault. She also lodged the FIR with Mahila Police.
