Advocate murder: Lawyers’ cease work from today

Cuttack/Bhubaneswar: Lawyers across the State to launch an indefinite cease work from Friday demanding arrest of the accused in Hemant Sahu murder case. Sahu, a lawyer in Boudh was brutally killed by some unidentified miscreants on Tuesday while he was on a morning walk.

The cease work decision was taken at the High Court Bar Association on Thursday.

Sources said court proceedings have been affected in Cuttack as the High Court lawyers have stayed away from their work from Thursday afternoon.

The Bhubaneswar Bar Association has also joined hands with the striking lawyers supporting their demand to arrest the culprit.

Sahu (33) was also BJP’s Boudh district legal cell president.

On the fateful day Sahu was on morning walk at his village Bahira under Bausuni police limits when the miscreants attacked him with sharp weapons. He died on the spot.

Police said while two miscreants are suspected to be directly involved in the incident, some more persons might have been involved indirectly.

Police suspected longstanding dispute between the relatives of the deceased over property might be the cause of the incident. Earlier two persons, including the father of the deceased, were killed in 2004 over property dispute, police said.

The exact cause would be known only after the arrest of the accused, they said.
