Abducted Odia youth Prabhas Samal freed by ISIS militants

Bhubaneswar: Odia youth Prabhas Ranjan Samal who was kidnapped by ISIS militants in Libya yesterday has been freed, family members claimed.

Though Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) is yet to confirm his release, Samal’s family members said he was released from ISIS captivity yesterday evening.

Talking to OTV, Samal’s sister-in-law Manasi Nayak said, “He (Samal) called me up this afternoon and said he has been conditionally released by the militant group.

He said he is safe and no physical harm made by the group.”

Asked about his return, Nayak said, “He has appealed both Odisha and India government for his safe return to India.”

Yesterday Samal and one from Andhra Pradesh were kidnapped from Sirte in war-torn Libya.

Samal belongs to Hantapada under Marshaghai block in Kendrapara district. He was working as a laboratory technician in Libya.

Sirte is under the control of the Islamic State terror group, which is steadily expanding its influence in central Libya.
