7 Odias trapped in Oman return home after MP Baijayant Panda’s intervention

Kendrapara: Seven Odias, who were stranded in Oman, finally returned home after the intervention by BJD’s Kendrapara MP Baijayant Panda. Prakash Ghadei and Pratap Ghadei of Khadala Sahi in Pattamundei in Kendrapara were among the 7 persons who managed to safely return from Oman.

According to sources, the duo had gone to Oman in search of work though an agent. However, after they reached Oman they were not given employment and were left to starve. After starving for two days, they called their family members and informed about their plight. Their family members approached MP Panda and urged him to intervene after which efforts were initiated for their safe return, said sources.

Moreover, five more persons from Derabish and Mahanga area of the district, who were exploited in Oman, have also returned safely.

“We were asked to do other jobs and after we refused they stopped giving us food and also threatened to kill us. We are very happy that we are back at home as we had lost hope of returning to our homeland,” said Prakash Ghadei.

“There are many people who are trapped in different countries. I urge the government to trace these fraudulent agents and take necessary action against them,” said Prakash’s Brother Nirmal Ghadei.
