6 Congressmen arrested for egg attack on Atanu

Deogarh: Six Congress activists have been arrested by district police today on charges of hurling eggs on Health Minister Atanu Sabyasachi Nayak yesterday.

They include Deogarh city Congress president Subhash Bhoi, councillor Dharmendra Debata and four other party activists.

In another report, Odisha police directorate general (DGP) KB Singh has suspended inspector-in-charge (IIC) of Deogarh, Sudarsan Jena and DSI of the minister’s piloting vehicle over the incident.

Some youths bearing Congress flags in hands waylaid the vehicle of the Health minister and hurled eggs at his car near Kurada village, 5 kilometres from the district headquarters town, when the former was on his way to Deogarh hospital to review health care facilities there. The youths fled the spot soon after throwing eggs.

Chhatra Congress claimed responsibility for the egg attack and vowed to continue such protest while Biju Chhatra Janata Dal (BCJD) termed it as a sign of frustration on the part of the Congress.

Notably, Food minister Sanjay Dasburma had faced a similar attack by Congress activists in Puri and Chhatrapur recently. Five accused were arrested in connection with Puri incident while three others allegedly involved in egg attack in Chhatrapur of Ganjam district were nabbed.
