A bus driver of the Odisha State Road Transport Corporation (OSRTC) died after suffering a heart attack while on duty, but not before saving the lives of 25 passengers by safely pulling the moving bus to the roadside on Thursday.
The driver, identified as P. Saikrishna, was operating an OSRTC bus travelling from Vizianagaram to Malkangiri when he developed severe chest pain near Kunduli. Despite the sudden discomfort, he managed to stop the bus carefully, preventing what could have been a major accident.
An additional driver and staff onboard immediately alerted the ambulance service. However, after receiving information that the ambulance would be delayed, the conductor shifted him to Koraput Medical College with the help of an auto-rickshaw. Saikrishna was declared dead while undergoing treatment.
The bus had 25 passengers, all of whom remained unharmed due to his timely action. The deceased driver was a resident of Malkangiri.
