Bhubaneswar: In its bid to encourage students of disadvantaged sections pursue higher education, Orissa government today launched `Prerana`, an e-post matric scholarship programme.

"Post Matric scholarship has been a major scheme for facilitating the higher and technical education among the weaker sections like ST, SC, OBC, SEBC and minority students," Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik said after launching the programme.

The programme named as `Prerana` allows on-line registration for Post Matric Scholarship. The students can log on to http://ori.nic.in/odishapms for applying on line for the Post Matric scholarship.

"There is no ceiling on the number of applicants in case of ST & SC students. Any number of eligible students under this category can apply on line for scholarship," said ST, SC Development, Minorities, Backward Classes Welfare secretary Santosh Sarangi.

The students have to submit the personal details in the online application form. They also need to upload passport size photo, caste certificate and income certificate along with the application form, he added.

Though above 1.5 lakh students belonging to weaker section are now taking advantage of the post matric scholarship, the government is hopeful that more will avail the facility in future.
