Orissa HC grants conditional bail to BJP MLA

Cuttack: The Orissa High Court on Friday granted conditional bail to BJP MLA Manoj Pradhan, who was an accused in a Kandhamal riot case.

The single-judge bench of Justice Kumari Sanju Panda granted bail to Pradhan who had surrendered in a Phulbani lower court last week after Supreme Court had set aside his bail granted earlier by the Orissa High Court.

The SC, however, had asked the MLA to approach the State High Court again.

The HC granted bail to Pradhan and he was asked to execute his bail at the Phulbani court with a bail bond of Rs 20,000 and two sureties. He was asked by the court not to influence the witnesses in the case and not to leave the country till the trial in the case was over.

The BJP MLA was also asked by the court that on being release on bail he shall not get involved in similar activities for which he was booked.

The BJP leader was arrested for his involvement in Kandhamal communal riot of 2008 and was booked under murder of one Parikhit Digal of Budedipada village. He was facing charges of murder, rioting, trespassing with weapons and arson.
