Cuttack: Orissa High Court Chief Justice C Nagappan was today elevated to the Bench of Supreme Court, official sources said.

A Presidential warrant of appointment for Justice Nagappan was received here and he would assume his new posting in New Delhi on September 19.

The chief justice was given a warm send-off by the members of the Orissa High Court Bar Association.

Speaking about the felicitation, Justice Nagappan said his seven-month tenure in the state was very comfortable and profusely thanked the members of the Bench and Bar of Orissa High Court for the same.

He was appointed as Chief Justice of Orissa High Court on February 27 and had he not been elevated to Supreme Court, Justice Nagappan would have retired in the first week of October.

"I was preparing to retire next month. But the Mahaprabhu (Lord Jagannath of Puri) decided that I should serve the people for another three years," Justice Nagappan said here in his farewell speech.
