Bhubaneswar: Representatives of Congress and BJP, including many Opposition legislators, met Governor S.C. Jamir today and complained against Advocate-General (AG) Surya Prasad Mishra for the latter’s advisory to the Speaker that chit fund scam should not be discussed in Assembly as it is sub-judice.

Speaking to the media, BJP Legislative Party leader Basant Panda said, “We apprised the Governor of the AG’s wrong advice to the Speaker. This issue will be also raised before President Pranab
Mukherjee during a meeting today evening. We demand resignation of the AG.”

Meanwhile, BJP activists gheraoed the Cuttack residence of AG Surya Prasad Mishra.

Leader of Opposition Narasingha Mishra said, “The incumbent AG was earlier an advocate of Seashore Group. On moral grounds, he should have opted not to give any comments on chit fund related issues. We demand he should resign immediately.”

Further, Mishra added, the AG has violated the Bar Council’s code of conduct by giving comments to Speaker on chit fund issue.

On the other hand, pandemonium continued to mar the proceeding in Assembly successively for the ninth day of winter session. As soon as the House assembled for the day, Opposition members stormed into the well of the House with banners and posters. Ruling party members resorted to similar kind of action and stormed into the well while shouting slogans to counter Opposition members.

Unruly scenes were witnessed just a few seconds after beginning of the Question Hour. As both treasury and Opposition benches refused to relent from disrupting the proceedings, Speaker Niranjan Pujari adjourned the House till 3 pm.
