Bhubaneswar: Amid the spurt in the number of bikes with customized silencers which make loud bursting sounds while plying the roads in Twin Cities, the Commissionerate Police has come up with a comprehensive plan-Operation Bullet to curb the use of such cacophonic technology in motorycles in Bhubaneswar.

Cracking down on bikers causing noise pollution by tinkering with their vehicles, the Commissionerate Police on Monday launched an inspection drive at six main traffic junctions of Bhubaneswar and detained more than 20 heavy duty two-wheelers.

Apart from penalising the bike owners with Rs 500 each under Section 190(2) of Motor Vehicle Act for replacing original silencer pipes as well as for speed driving, the Traffic cops also removed the noisy exhaust systems from the bikes and cautioned the violators of more stringent action in future.

It may be noted that after complaints from various quarters regarding inconvenience faced by other motorists and general public due to loud sounds produced by the bikes, Commissionerate Police decided to take action against the fany bikers.

Earlier on July 9, Balasore Traffic Police also launched a similar crackdown on the bikers using loud silencers in their two-wheelers. Police informed that in the last two months, 72 such silencers & over 500 designed number plates had been seized.
