Cuttack, January 12: “India is an agriculture-based country. Therefore, every child born here must acquire knowledge about agriculture. To develop students’ interest in agriculture at the primary level, it is essential to attract them towards the positive aspects of agriculture through various skills and engaging models,” said Professor Dr. Tej partap, Vice-Chancellor while addressing the gathering at the ‘Open Day–2026’ organised by the Faculty of Agriculture, Sri Sri University in Cuttack.

Professor Dr. S. Kumaraswamy, Dean of the Faculty in his address, expressed gratitude to the participating schools for encouraging students to learn about agriculture.

Professor Dr. Anil Kumar Sharma, Executive Registrar explained in an engaging manner how agriculture has recently emerged as an unparalleled source of employment for the youth.

The ‘Open Day–2026,’ organised by the Faculty of Agriculture, Sri Sri University, aimed to create interest among young students in agriculture, advanced technologies used in the field, agricultural projects & farm machinery, and to motivate them towards innovation. 

Reportedly, around 800 students from several schools in and around Cuttack participated in the event.

Under the supervision of Dr. Abhinab Mishra, school network coordinator effectively communicated with the principals and students from Classes VIII to XI attend the programme along with their principals and teachers.

The event aimed to raise awareness among students about agriculture, food processing, and sustainable farming practices.

In addition, an educative agricultural exhibition was organised by the students of the Faculty of Agriculture. 

The exhibition showcased various scientific models related to farming techniques, crop production, irrigation systems, modern agricultural practices and commercially value-added products.

Several well-designed stalls displaying different agricultural and food products reportedly  drew keen interest from the visiting students.

Many students among participants stated that such an innovative initiative helped them find simple and quick answers to several questions they had in mind.
