Bhubaneswar: To boot socio-cultural art of the State, the Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) in association with Artists Network Promoting Indian Culture (ANPIC) has been constructing an open air sculpture museum in five acres of land at Kalinga Nagar here.

As many as 21 artists from 14 countries have congregated to create sculptures from waste materials and scrap metals which will be permanently displayed at the museum with theme ‘reduce, reuse and recycle’.

The artists are using rusted irons, rods, waste steels and aluminum, old bicycles, tins, key rings, broken utensils and other scrap materials to make the sculptures of different animals and insects.

“I am making the sculpture of a tiger with waste iron. This is the first time I am making something like this. I am enjoying the work and loving the outcome,” said an artist.

Another artist said, “I am using a defunct auto rickshaw and a range of waste steel and rods for the sculpture. I am excited about the artwork.”

Sources said the initiative is envisioned at creating awareness among the people of Odisha as well as the nation about the ecosystem to bring environmental as well as social changes.

“This is for the first time in the country when international artists in such large number are engaged in making sculpture in any public art symposium,” said the managing trustee of ANPIC, Sashank Mohapatra.
