Bhadrak: A man and his daughter sustained critical injuries after being reportedly attacked by a youth near Dalimbagadia square in Bhadrak district yesterday over a suspected one-sided love affair.

As per reports, Rabindra Sahu and his daughter Smita (name changed) had gone to Cuttack for a medical check-up on Saturday. Later in the day, they boarded a train and alighted at Kenduapada railway station at around 10 PM.

While they were returning to their village, Dalapati under Bonth police limits in Bhadrak, on a scooter from Kenduapada, the youth allegedly attacked them with a sharp weapon near Dalimbagadia square.

However, the accused fled the spot after seeing people coming towards the chhak. Locals then rushed Rabindra and his daughter to Bhadrak District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) but they were later shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack after their condition deteriorated.

Meanwhile, the accused youth has been identified by Rabindra as Raja of the same village. "Raja wanted to marry my daughter, but neither Smita nor our family allowed that to happen. So, he attacked us to take revenge," alleged the girl’s father.

Bonth police have reportedly started an investigation into the case.
