One rupee, one full meal: Social organisation feeds thousands in Balasore
Balasore has set a remarkable example of community service through a food scheme that ensures a full, nutritious meal for just one rupee. The Annapurna Scheme was initiated by the Balasore Yuva Shakti Organisation on Tuesday, with the aim of offering food assistance and supporting the underprivileged.
Under this initiative, people are served a wholesome meal comprising rice, dalma, ghanta (mixed vegetable curry), khata (tangy curry), papad and ghee, sufficient to satisfy one person. The food donation drive is organised on the last Monday of every month and has been receiving an encouraging response from locals.
One-Rupee Contribution Supports Cow Welfare
Long queues of people marked the food drive, with organisers actively volunteering throughout the drive, overseeing the cooking, serving, and distribution of food. To make the food drive even more meaningful, the nominal one-rupee contribution collected from beneficiaries is utilized for cow welfare services.

Residents have appreciated the effort, calling it a thoughtful step towards food security and social responsibility. The Annapurna Scheme continues to stand as a shining example of compassion, service, and collective effort in Balasore.
