Rourkela: One person was killed when suspected Peoples Liberation Front of India (PLFI) cadres attacked a petrol pump at Nuagaon area in Sundargarh district on Thursday, police sources said.

About six suspected members of Peoples Liberation Front of India (PLFI) attacked the petrol pump at Nuagaon in Hatibari area and opened indiscriminate firing killing Mahesh Sahu, one of the employees of the pump, police said.

It is suspected that the incident was fallout of non-payment of ransom demanded from the owner of the pump. Posters bearing the name PLFI were found on the spot.

Meanwhile, angry locals surrounded the pump and blamed the owner for the mishap and asked for compensation. Some villagers also torched three vehicles of the owner parked at the pump, police sources said.

Sundergarh Superintendent of Police Sanjeev Arora said "it is purely a case of ransom. Over five persons surrounded the pump and opened fire in which one of the employees died on spot.Police are on the spot and investigation is on. This is the work of suspected PLFI members."
