Balasore: One person was killed and eight persons sustained injuries in a road mishap near Basta-Haldipada bypass on National Highway-60 in the district today morning.

While the injured were initially rushed to the Balasore Medical College and Hospital, later four of them were shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack after their condition deteriorated. The condition of the other four is stated to be stable now.

According to sources, the mishap took place when the vehicle they were travelling in collided with another vehicle.

Though the identity of the deceased is yet to be ascertained preliminary reports suggest that all the passengers are residents of Kolkata and had started their journey from Raipur.

In another incident, 2 persons were killed after the bike they were riding rammed into a bridge near Bhalupani village in Bonai of Sundergarh district. The identity of the deceased is yet to be established.

While initial reports suggested that the bikers died on the spot, police reached the spot and initiated an investigation.

Earlier on Tuesday evening, 10 persons were killed and 50 persons sustained injuries after a bus travelling from Talcher to Cuttack fell off a bridge into the Mahanadi River bed in Cuttack yesterday evening.
