One killed, several injured as auto-rickshaw overturns into ghati in Nabarangpur

Umerkote: One labourer was killed and at least 10 others sustained injuries after an auto-rickshaw carrying them overturned into a ghati near Kuamba village under Chandahandi block of the district late Friday night.

The deceased labourer identified as Akala Goud and the injured persons are stated to be residents of Kuamba village.

According to reports, the auto-rickshaw carrying around 25 labourers was returning to Kuamba when it veered off the road and fell into a gorge near the village.

Locals along with police officials launched a rescue operation. All the injured were initially admitted to Chandahandi Community Health Centre (CHC) and later some of them were shifted to Nabarangpur District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) after their condition worsened.

While police have initiated an investigation into the mishap, they suspect low visibility due to foggy weather might be the reason behind it.
