A youth was killed, and four others sustained serious injuries after a car lost control and crashed into an electric pole near Gidhibas Chhak on National Highway No. 220 under Jashipur police limits.
The accident took place in Odisha's Mayurbhanj district early Monday morning.
Accident Near Gidhibas Chhak
The accident occurred at around 05:00 am when five youths were travelling in the car. They were returning to Jashipur after watching Dola Melan in Karanjia. According to reports, the vehicle lost balance and rammed into an electric pole. The impact left the car completely mangled.
Locals rushed to the spot immediately after the crash and rescued the occupants from the severely damaged vehicle. However, one of the youths died shortly after being rescued.
Victim And Injured Under Treatment
All five occupants reportedly belonged to a village in Jashipur. The deceased was a gym trainer by profession.
Among the critically injured, one was shifted to Cuttack SCBMCH, while another was referred to Keonjhar District Hospital. The remaining two injured persons got admitted to the Karanjia Sub-Divisional Hospital for treatment.
Investigation Underway
It is suspected that the car was travelling at high speed, considering the mangled condition of the vehicle. There is also suspicion that the driver may have dozed off, leading to the crash.
Upon receiving information, Jashipur police reached the scene and initiated an investigation into the incident. Further inquiry is underway to ascertain the exact cause of the accident.
